Subbing teams in general sabotage themselves by taking on too many projects at once. Even when new shows come along, they go out of their way to sub every season of said show that came before the subbers themselves were even born. Add to that how hard it is to find those who actually understand Japanese, and add that to the lack of free time for the people who acutally want to be involved in such a hobby, and that's why subs get so far behind so often.
