Regarding the Monster suits

I always wondered this and maybe someone here can answer this for me, were the suits on the show for the main villain cast and monster of the day, were those taken directly from Toei for Saban to use OR were they replicated? I ask because I'm sure most of the suit actors in Japan were a little shorter than the suit actors for MMPR and such, I only assume this because I did research and the actor who played Gasha Skull (Rito Revolto) is only 5'5" and I'm sure that Danny Wayne is taller than that, can anyone help clerify this?

Same suits with rare exception.

Re: Regarding the Monster suits

Yeah, typically they are shipped over along with props and other stuff the production crew don't want to make from scratch (motorcycles would be shipped, I'd imagine). Moving to NZ saved on shipping for obvious reasons.

Sometimes (always?) just the additions/modifications are sent.

Ahh so the custom fairings are just bolted onto a bike bought locally? Would be cheaper.

I think Goldar, Elgar and Rygog have different suits in the Japanese version, which is why in some shots, you will see Elgar and Rygog looking more threatening than they normally do as some of it is stock footage then the next scene, you will see them in their American counterparts.

he's right generally the majority of the suits that they get are the same but I do think they generally receive the stunt suits but don't quote me on that stunt part.

that's interesting I never knew that but it would make sense since they would have hero versions of them (to make the Cycles look good) and stunt versions of them and it would be cheaper to just buy a bike locally and bolt the extra stuff to it.

yes you're right but that's not always the case with Goldar in fact during most of the first season we saw him with his original Zyuranger suit including his fight against Jason in the Dark Dimension in Green with Evil problem is those suits weren't made to last long and it was falling apart so they had to re-make a Goldar suit from scratch and we first saw their re-made suit in Crystal of Nightmares but we didn't get to see it again until The Mutiny.

Anyone else notice that Goldar's voice changed too? Which was weird since it was the same VA.

nope I didn't notice that but it happens since actors tend to experiment with their roles since some voices might be harder on their throats.

I noticed it. I always thought he had a different va for season 1 and was susprised it was the same va. I think his voice changed during the Zyu2 episodes.

He seemed to talk with more of a growl in the early episodes.

Are we really going to start talking about Voice Actors in a thread about monster suits?

Re: Regarding the Monster suits

It seems like topic related to me though. I wonder why the VA changed his tone?

if you don't like it then why don't you post something about the suit topic instead of just doing your usual "this topic is drifting" complaining shtick? complaining about it is just having YOU contribute to the topic drifting as well.

suits and voice actors are 2 different things so no they aren't topic related but who knows why he changed the voice other than he was probably trying to find an easier voice to do for him.

I personally hate boards that deny topic drift. I never want mods to derail discussions, even if they go off topic. Obviously if there is trouble than thats a different story. In some cases we may split topics if we think its a good idea. But for the most part we will leave the thread intact

indeed regardless of whether a thread drifts away from a topic or not it doesn't matter since topic drifting isn't a violation of OUR rules and we're the only ones as the Board Leaders who can set those rules and when it comes down to it topic drifting just isn't a big deal there are other bigger headaches to worry about than just topic drifting.

I am not surprised the staff lets us go off topic. It keeps the threads alive longer.

indeed how much can you really discuss about suits anyway? people can ask questions like which characters had re-made suits or didn't but that's basically it along with stuff like what suits they had gotten over the years regardless of what their condition was since they had gotten King Sphinx sent to them but only his head survived same with Scorpina's Monster Form we're only aware of her tail, boots and claws surviving since they had her tail, boots and claws re-purposed as 1 of Count Dregon's Plague Patrollers (some parts of them come from Zyuranger Dora Monsters, Dairanger Gorma Monsters and Kakuranger youkai the youkai were their villains' names)

no doubt but they were only made to last for so long so even if old suits existed they'd be pretty much dead by now with bugs crawling all over them.

yup some actors don't like doing voices if they're too hard on their throats.

Its just shows how dependent Power Rangers is on Toei. They can't make the suits themselves. At least not like Toei.

why would they anyway? it's cheaper to just rent the suits granted they bought some suits from them.

that they do. Toei gets money from them which they can just put right into the Sentai production and Saban gets stuff from Toei on the cheap.
